Between our webmaster’s bout
with the “Texas” flu and
several changes to the club
board,I am pleased to
announce the website is
reopened.
We are grateful to
our webmaster, Debi
Blacklidge for picking us up
again!
We miss you and
Robert over here in SoCal….!
An update on coping
with horses in snow and ice
would be a reality check for
us Californians complaining
about a little rain.
The
economy is almost like a
four letter word these days.
My inbox is inundated
with horses for sale, and
giveaways.
I am happy to cross
post to other groups on the
equine network.
However, many people,
including me, baulk at
forwarding already forwarded
emails.
If you receive
information about a horse
needing a home I recommend
you copy and paste the
information to a new email
before you send it out.
Explain that it is
copied, making sure the
contact information is
included.
If you
are finding it financially
challenging – and who
doesn’t – you might consider
a partial lease arrangement
to share the expenses.
You are welcome to
place an advertisement on
our website under “Wanted “
or “For Sale”.
Contact me at (949)
680-9161 or
eMail
for details.
By the
way, while on the Wilderness
Trail, I was stopped by a
local rancher who is looking
for a companion horse for
his horse.
His second horse died
recently.
He has real pasture
(grass!) and would only want
the cost of feed.
What a deal.
Call Philip (949)

information.

FEBRUARY
2009
I am
honored but daunted at
inheriting the Presidency of
South Orange County
Equestrians.
Whoever decided to
have such a long name?
As founding members,
Lori McCammon and I
hurriedly put together a
plan for this new club in
March 2007.
We all make mistakes
– one of them was the bylaws
which did not give the
Membership Chairperson (me)
a vote.
With a handful of
members we bravely launched
club rides, play days, trail
trials, clinics and more.
Some were more
successful than others, as
in any new endeavor, but we
learned so much.
I doubt
that I can ever match the
energy and enthusiasm of
President Connie Burns who
single handedly has made our
name known all over the
county. We thank you,
Connie.
Our vision to work
with others to preserve our
open space, wilderness,
riding trails and equestrian
facilities is still the
same.
We are
a little behind in planning
2009 activities but members
have given us lots of ideas.
To put them into
action we need PEOPLE.
This year we will
focus on safety, to include
emergency care, sensory
training, introduction to
the trail and arena
activities.
I encourage anyone
interested in trying play
days and gymkhanas to attend
Fullerton Recreational
Riders Gymkhana Schooling
School on Feb. 14.

volunteers are welcome to

Here’s to a
successful and fun 2009.
